{"id":1030,"date":"2022-12-13T11:38:35","date_gmt":"2022-12-13T16:38:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/visegradpost.com\/?p=1030"},"modified":"2025-05-22T11:54:06","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T15:54:06","slug":"new-gas-pipeline-project-between-slovenia-and-hungary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/visegradpost.com\/en\/2022\/12\/13\/new-gas-pipeline-project-between-slovenia-and-hungary\/","title":{"rendered":"New gas pipeline project between Slovenia and Hungary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Slovenia\/Hungary<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0\u2013 Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orb\u00e1n, and Croatian Energy Minister Davor Filipovi\u0107 jointly inaugurated the first high-voltage line connecting the Slovenian and Hungarian electricity grids in Cirkovce, Slovenia, on 2 December.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">On this occasion, Golob and Orb\u00e1n mentioned a gas pipeline project that would allow Hungary to import Algerian gas and, as Robert Golob put it,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u201c<em>allow Hungary to free itself from dependence on Russian gas in the medium term and find an independent source that passes through Italy<\/em>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">From 1 January 2023, Slovenia will supply one third of its own needs with Algerian gas, with 300 million cubic metres per year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The Slovenian PM also said, about the projected interconnections, that\u00a0<\/span>he considers them to be \u201c<em>an expression of solidarity between [the] two countries<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">For his part, the Hungarian PM explained that Hungary had three routes for reducing its dependence on Russian gas \u2013 Romania, Croatia and Slovenia \u2013 and that it intended to explore all three options.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u201c<em>We are interested in all three<\/em>\u201d, he said.(\u2026)<em>\u00a0\u201cWe want to eradicate this addiction. Hungary has established links in other directions, but these capabilities are insufficient to achieve full diversification. I plan to cooperate\u00a0<\/em>[with Slovenia]<em>\u00a0in a pragmatic way.\u00a0<\/em>(\u2026)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span lang=\"EN-GB\">If we conclude one of the projects, it does not mean that we are not interested in other options.<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Hungary is currently dependent on Russian gas for 65% of its national consumption, and is striving to establish greater diversification of its supplies in the medium term.
