Hungary, Budapest<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The two issues putting Europe\u2019s unity to the test today are migration and the direction the European Union is headed in, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n said at at his Fidesz party\u2019s \u201cnational consultation\u201d campaign closing event in Budapest. The Prime Minister said illegal migration was rightfully being called a modern-day \u201cmass migration wave\u201d. As regards the future of the EU, he said the question was whether the bloc was heading towards \u201cthe Europe of Brussels\u201d or a Europe of nation states.<\/p>\n Viktor Orb\u00e1n said both issues were of historic importance for the bloc. He said those who are in favour of a Europe of nations are \u201ceurorealists\u201d rather than eurosceptics. \u201cEurorealists wish to build the European Union on rock solid foundations rather than on sand,\u201d he said. The Prime Minister argued that the \u201creality of the Europe of nations\u201d is the only such political foundation that exists today. No nation can be dictated whom it must live together with in its own country, Orb\u00e1n said, adding that this was a sovereign decision to be made by a nation alone. He said multiculturalism had failed in Europe and the EU was now trying to get member states, including Hungary, to pay the price for it.<\/p>\n The Prime Minister said the EU was trying to distribute migrants who had been unjustifiably allowed entry into western Europe among countries that had refused to let them in, like Hungary. Hungary\u2019s proposal is that rather than being distributed among member states, migrants should be moved out of Europe, he said. Orb\u00e1n also said that the \u201cillusion of mass integration\u201d had failed. \u201cIt\u2019s painful to say that as good as mass integration may look on paper and in textbooks, the truth is that it doesn\u2019t work,\u201d he said. Instead, parallel societies are created with rising crime rates and deteriorating public safety, the threat of terrorism and terrorist attacks, he argued. Orb\u00e1n said only Europe could decide on its own future.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd by this Europe we don\u2019t mean Brussels or European leaders but rather the community of European citizens,\u201d the Hungarian Premier said. \u201cBut Europe has stopped asking its people for their opinions.\u201d He said there was a broad consensus in Hungary on the need to protect the country\u2019s migration policy and economic independence from EU intervention. Assessing the results of the government\u2019s nationwide survey, Orb\u00e1n said the Hungarian people had confirmed that they want Hungary to be free to shape its own economic policy.<\/p>\n \u201cWe must keep the regulation of taxes and energy prices in our hands and must not let these competences be transferred\u201d to Brussels, he said. Hungarians do not want to accept illegal migrants, \u201cnot a single one, not even temporarily or in any way at all\u201d, he insisted. He said that \u201cas long as there are jobless Hungarians, others should not be given employment\u201d. He suggested that the community itself take care of \u201ceven the hardest of least appreciated work\u201d rather than \u201cpass on\u201d menial jobs to immigrants. \u201cIf we want to make Hungary a strong nation we must ensure employment for everyone and appreciate any job,\u201d Orb\u00e1n added. Hungarians do not want to give Brussels control over Hungary, Orb\u00e1n said. They do not want to give any more powers or transfer more competences to Brussels than those laid out in Hungary\u2019s treaty of accession, he added.<\/p>\n \u201cWe shall not let Soros have the last laugh\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n In his speech, Viktor Orb\u00e1n called US billionaire George Soros a \u201cspeculator\u201d running a \u201cvast mafia network\u201d and said he was a \u201cthreat to Europe\u2019s peace\u201d. Orb\u00e1n said that migration was \u201cgood business\u201d for Soros, but would be even better if Hungary \u201cwasn\u2019t making a fuss about it\u201d. \u201cThe reason why he [Soros] is so angry with Hungary and me personally is because we stand in the way of his big plan and big business,\u201d Orb\u00e1n said. Soros has announced his migrant relocation programme, \u201cfinances organisations bringing migrants into Europe\u201d and \u201csupports the mafia network of NGOs and people smugglers,\u201d Orb\u00e1n insisted.<\/p>\n The Hungarian Prime Minister said he expected \u201chard battles\u201d ahead of next year\u2019s elections, because \u201cSoros will try everything so that Hungary has a government which plays from his music; one which dismantles the border fence and opens up the borders before illegal migrants\u201d. \u201cThis is no longer ideology, it is politics. It is a national security issue; there is no pardon when it comes to Hungary\u2019s security and the safety of Hungarians,\u201d Orb\u00e1n said.
