{"id":4269,"date":"2017-11-01T09:55:02","date_gmt":"2017-11-01T09:55:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/visegradpost.com\/?p=4269"},"modified":"2025-06-16T19:08:42","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T18:08:42","slug":"the-eastring-pipeline-project-is-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/visegradpost.com\/en\/2017\/11\/01\/the-eastring-pipeline-project-is-launched\/","title":{"rendered":"The Eastring pipeline project is launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Article originally published in the\u00a0Budapest Business Journal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Slovakia\/Hungary\/Romania\/Bulgaria<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Hungary and Slovakia on Monday signed a declaration of intent on the construction of the\u00a0Eastring gas pipeline, a transmission route between hubs in Western Europe and the Balkan region and Turkey, according to state news agency MTI.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement on the stretch of the pipeline that passes through the two countries was signed by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade P\u00e9ter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 and Slovakian Minister of Economy Peter \u017diga in the presence of Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico.<\/p>\n<p>Eastring will link the gas transmission systems of Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria, establishing a bi-directional connection between West European hubs and gas reserves in the Caspian region and the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>Eastring will have an annual capacity of 30-40 bln cubic meters of gas, M. \u017diga said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the project\u02bcs website, Eastring will not own or sell any natural gas and once available, all its capacity will be offered to any shipper or supplier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce built, Eastring will offer direct and most cost-effective transportation route in between the Balkans and the rest of Europe.
