{"id":4537,"date":"2022-11-29T10:01:07","date_gmt":"2022-11-29T10:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/visegradpost.com\/?p=4537"},"modified":"2025-06-09T10:02:40","modified_gmt":"2025-06-09T09:02:40","slug":"hungary-to-get-israeli-iron-dome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/visegradpost.com\/en\/2022\/11\/29\/hungary-to-get-israeli-iron-dome\/","title":{"rendered":"Hungary to get Israeli Iron Dome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Hungary<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 As the conservative Hungarian daily\u00a0<em>Magyar Nemzet<\/em>\u00a0reported on Monday, 21 November, Hungarian Defence Minister Krist\u00f3f Szalay-Bobrovniczky has announced that the Hungarian army will soon be equipped with a<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cworld-class Israeli radar system capable of detecting and tracking air and artillery targets\u201d.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The week before, Szalay-Bobrovniczky had accompanied President Katalin Nov\u00e1k on her official visit to Israel and met with his Israeli counterpart, Benny Gantz.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0<em>Mandiner<\/em>\u00a0wrote on its website on 22 November, each ELM-2084 \u201c<em>anti-aircraft reconnaissance and artillery system<\/em>\u201d \u2013 currently used by Israel to protect itself from Hamas missile attacks \u2013 will be able to<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>protect \u201c<em>an area of 150 square kilometres<\/em>\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This would allow the entire territory of Hungary to be covered, and would avoid incidents such as\u00a0the one that occurred on 15 November in eastern Poland, when a Ukrainian air defence missile struck a grain warehouse, killing two people.<\/p>\n<p>Reporting on Katalin Nov\u00e1k\u2019s trip to Israel,\u00a0<em>The Hungarian Conservative<\/em>\u00a0noted that this latest development is not something completely new, as \u201c<em>in December 2020, General Ferenc Korom, then commander of the Hungarian Defence Forces, and St\u00e9phane Oehrli, president and CEO of Rheinmetall Canada Inc. signed a contract for the acquisition of eleven ELM-2084 air surveillance, air defence and artillery reconnaissance radars as part of Hungary\u2019s Zr\u00ednyi 2026 defence programme.
