{"id":951,"date":"2022-02-15T10:16:41","date_gmt":"2022-02-15T15:16:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/visegradpost.com\/?p=951"},"modified":"2025-05-22T11:54:06","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T15:54:06","slug":"marki-zay-brings-together-communists-and-fascists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/visegradpost.com\/en\/2022\/02\/15\/marki-zay-brings-together-communists-and-fascists\/","title":{"rendered":"M\u00e1rki-Zay brings together \u201ccommunists and fascists\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Hungary\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 As the weeks go by, P\u00e9ter M\u00e1rki-Zay, the\u00a0united opposition\u2018s candidate for the post of prime minister in the upcoming 3 April parliamentary elections, is making more and more blunders.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>These blunders have piled up and the gap in the polls is widening<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The mayor of H\u00f3dmez\u0151v\u00e1s\u00e1rhely, P\u00e9ter M\u00e1rki-Zay, who won\u00a0the opposition\u2019s primary last autumn, has been making so many misstatements that his own camp is increasingly worried and seems to be discreetly disassociating itself from him. Last Saturday M\u00e1rki-Zay\u00a0spoke in Fony\u00f3d, a town on Lake Balaton\u2019s southern shore, where he attended a meeting to support MP \u00c1d\u00e1m Steinmetz, a former Olympic water polo champion and a local Jobbik candidate backed by M\u00e1rki-Zay\u2019s Hungary for All movement. Having previously sparked fury by declaring that a number of Fidesz members are\u00a0Jewish\u00a0or homosexual, M\u00e1rki-Zay stated:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>What Viktor Orb\u00e1n embodies in his person, this rainbow coalition \u2013 namely, liberals, communists, conservatives, and fascists \u2013, we represent them separately in the alliance<\/em>\u201d of the opposition, where \u201c<em>everyone can keep his own vision of the world<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Even the journalists of a media outlet overtly supporting M\u00e1rki-Zay such as\u00a0444.hu\u00a0were left flabbergasted and wondering whether the common opposition candidate \u201c<em>really<\/em><em>thinks<\/em>\u00a0<em>that he represents the fascists in the Unity for Hungary [coalition]<\/em>\u201d and which party he thinks represents these \u201c<em>fascists<\/em>\u201d within the united opposition.<\/p>\n<p>The opposition candidate then published\u00a0a post on Facebook\u00a0to explain that the communists and fascists are in Viktor Orb\u00e1n\u2019s ranks, and that he was referring to the small, traditional left-wing alliance (the Munk\u00e1sp\u00e1rt communist party that is allied with the radical left-wing party ISZOMM) and the nationalist party Mi Haz\u00e1nk, which he presents as Orb\u00e1n\u2019s satellites.<\/p>\n<p>Fidesz has been ahead in all polls since mid-December, and since the end of January, its lead has been widening.
