Poland, Warsaw – On Friday, April 22, after their meeting, the Polish President Andrzej Duda and the Slovenian president Borut Pahor stated that they are against isolating Russian Federation and the dialog between NATO and Russia should be based on partnership.
President Duda has reminded once again Polish proposals before this year’s NATO Summit in Warsaw. In his opinion, there is an urgent need to strengthen NATO and it should be done by increasing the presence of NATO troops in Central Europe. “NATO must be strong, responsible and united, because only such partner could talk with Russia,” stated Andrzej Duda.
“We do not advocate Russia’s isolation. We believe that dialogue with Russia should continue, but on the partnership positions.” Added President Duda. The Slovenian president Pahor noted that his country understood the security concerns of Poland and Baltic countries and their desire to boost their defense capabilities. “Slovenia has no ambitions or desire to build special relations with Russia. However, against the backdrop of difficult relations between Brussels and Moscow, we are trying to see the path leading to the solution of problems. I believe in the peaceful solution of difficult issues. We need to keep up the dialogue and show the right path,” Pahor said.
The two Presidents discussed during their meeting also other topics such as the migrant crisis, the situation in Ukraine and bilateral partnership, including transportation and energy infrastructures’ development. Warsaw will be hosting the NATO Summit on 8 and 9 July.
