Hungary, Budapest – Hungarian parliament approved a referendum about migrant quotas imposed by the EU with 136 positive votes. Hungarian people will be asked : “Do you want to allow the European Union to mandate the resettlement of non-Hungarian citizens to Hungary without the approval of the National Assembly?”
“The government is responding to public sentiment now: we Hungarians think introducing resettlement quotas for migrants without the backing of the people equals an abuse of power.” Viktor Orbán said about this referendum. He is supported by Poland, Slovakia and Czechia, and more and more other countries within the European Union.
When the EU decided to resettle 120,000 migrants within the member states, Hungary, Czechia and Romania voted against, followed by Poland. The Hungarian referendum will be held by September or early October.
