Hungary, Budapest – On 3 May, Hungarian Minister of Defence István Simicskó met Macedonian Minister of Defence Zoran Jolevski and they held a press briefing in Budapest. Hungary reaffirmed her support to Macedonia’s integration into the European Union and NATO.
The two ministers talked about strengthening bilateral military cooperation, the migration crisis situation and the next NATO summit in Warsaw this summer. Also, István Simicskó said that the stability of the Western Balkans is important to Hungarians and Europe. He thanked Macedonia for protecting Europe in the migrant crisis situation and for carrying out the related tasks by European norms, and emphasized that over the last six months, the migration pressure on Europe has been a test of strength for Macedonia and Hungary alike. Both ministers agreed on the need for strengthening defence cooperation between the two countries.
Zoran Jolevski thanked Hungary for her support in Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic integration but also for her role in handling the migration situation. Since 2015, the V4 members have been supporting Macedonia handling the migrant crisis, by providing her personnel, logistic and diplomatic help . Hungarian Minister of Defence reaffirmed his will to support the country and the need of European unity.
