Serbia wants to help control the Bulgaria-Turkey border

Serbia, Belgrade – On Sunday the 8 during a meeting with Bulgarian counterpart Rumyana Bachvarova, Interior Minister Nebojša Stefanović proposed to help patrol border between Bulgaria and Turkey.

Balkan nations closed their borders to migrants in March but they keep going through illegally mostly with the help of people smugglers, trying to reach the European Union.

Stefanović said it is “to show our neighbours that they can rely on us” according to an interior ministry statement, and also to ease the pressure on the Serbian border. Serbian authorities have discussed the issue with EU leaders.
