The Czech populist party wins regional elections

Czechia – Official results announced this Saturday, October 8, that ANO, the Czech populist party founded by Andrej Babiš in 2011, won the majority of votes in the regional elections. Andrej Babiš, currently finance minister, could then consider becoming Prime Minister.

The ANO party won nine of the thirteen regions. The party of Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, the Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) won in only two regions. But the turnout was 34%.

In addition, the second round of Senate elections will be held on 14 and 15 October, with the ANO party given winner by the polls.
