Kosovo, Pristina – On Tuesday, May 17th, a few hundreds of people walked through the capital for the first Gay Pride organized in Kosovo.
The parade was planned in the greatest secrecy. The organizers were afraid of the reactions of the population, among which approximately 90 % is Muslim. The demonstration was supervised by many policemen.
“All citizens have the same rights regardless of ethnicity or gender” said the head of state, Hashim Thaçi. He took part in the demonstration in favour of the LGBT and walked by their side, as other political personalities of the country and also the ambassadors of the United Kingdom and of the United States.
Since 1999 Kosovo has been separated from Serbia and benefits since its vague desires of independence of the active support of the United States, which have one of their main European bases there.
