Outrageous record of Budapest’s mayor’s advisor sparks scandal in Hungary

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Hungary – Exclusive record: Expert of Gergely Karácsony is bragging about, that he desecrated the cross on the Gellért-hill with rainbow colour paint.

The record in the possession of Vasárnap.hu also testifies: Gáspár Békés wants to do it again.

The advisor of Karácsony brags about the desecration of the cross on the Gellér-hill

Gáspár Békés last December (at the time, he was already working at the Major’ office) proudly told before the record of an online show to Rita Perintfalvi feminist theologian what they have done with the co-participant of the show, Tamás Waldmann, president of the Hungarian Atheist Association.

„Shouldn’t we light paint the cross on the Gellért-hill? Once we tried it with Tamás, we painted it to rainbow colours” – mentioned on the record from the environmental expert of Gergely Karácsony, which followed by a laughing and a question from Rita Perintfalvi.

After that, Gáspár Békés goes into details in how he committed the desecration of the cross:

„We brought coloured plexis, which we painted with transparent paint, but the colours were too pale. But now that the Gellért statue was blue because of the riff-raff with the EU, we thought, what if we light paint the cross?”

After that the discussion was about what kind of reaction would come from the other side for such an act. Tamás Waldmann thinks the people on the right and Christians would condemn it as gender propaganda, and highlight the harmful effects of it, if they would light paint the cultic cross of the Gellért-hill to rainbow colours.

Békés responded to that: „ But the cross is a Christian propaganda, isn’t it? So if there is Christian propaganda, why isn’t there gender propaganda?”

Perintfalvi liked the idea, in fact, she agreed: „Well there should be”. She continued, that the other side would think of this as desecration of the religion, but she doesn’t agree with them.

The atheist activist, as Békés refers to himself, and feminist theologian Perintfalvi got on the same ground, agreeing that from the Bible you can read anything out, and the opposite.

Below you can find the record and the verbatim record of it.

G.B.: „Shouldn’t we light paint the cross on the Gellért-hill? Once we tried it with Tamás, we paint it to rainbow colours.” (Waldmann laughs) „Once we tried it with Tamás, we light painted the cross on Gellért-hill to rainbow colours”

R.P.: Really?

G.B.: „„We brought coloured plexis, which we painted with transparent paint, but the colours were too pale. But now, that the Gellért statue was blue because of the riff-raff with the EU, we thought, what if we light paint the cross? And then what would they say? So, not like this, because those who are protesting, they would say, that no, because gays are not Christians…”

T.W.: „Gender propaganda.”

G.B.: „But what would be the protest involving this?”

T.W.: That they have no problems with gays as a person, but the gender propaganda is godless, and I don’t know.”

G.B.: „ But the cross itself is a Christian propaganda, isn’t it? So if there is Christian propaganda, why isn’t there gender propaganda?”

R.P.: „Well there should be. But here you are committing the desecration of the religion, because you are putting one on another. So they have a problem with you putting your propaganda on theirs. Which I don’t agree with, but that is their reasoning.

(G.B.: „Of course.”)

G.B.: Yeah, but truly from the Bible you can read out anything, and the opposite of it. So I read out that Jesus loved everyone, and from then on…

(R.P.: „That is true.”)

G.B.: Of course they can read out, that gays should be stoned, but from then on this is fair game. So… I think… Okay, whatever…”

R.P.: „We can talk about this!”

G.B.: „Yes!”
